The X8 Stick Kit can be a lot of things to a lot of different vapers. This is a very capable backup setup. It’s also great for people who have to commute and want to keep something in one of their front pockets. It’s fantastic for the newbie that doesn’t want something with a complicated menu system. It’s also great for the people that insist on top airflow and don’t want a tank that leaks. What I’m trying to say is, this kit does cover a lot of bases and I think it will appeal to a large number of vapers in today’s marketplace. It’s a fine kit that does what it sets out to do and it does it extremely well. I have no problem recommending this kit to anybody that needs something like this in their vape life. It is DeucesJack approved.
First Impression Out Of The Box
Nice looking presentation. When you first open up the box, you see the battery, the tank, and the spare coil all on one level. Underneath all of that, we have the USB charging cable, a vape band, and some spares. There is also an instruction manual and authenticity card. It’s a nice looking kit. Mine is done in all stainless steel and the tank does match up with the mod beautifully. I’m going to juice up one of these coils up and see how it actually performs.

The battery part of the mod is 24.5 mm in diameter. On the top side of the mod, we do have a gold-plated spring-loaded 510 pin. The 510 does have a spring to it that is definitely on the soft side but it also has a nice long throw to it as well. Threading on the 510 connection is very smooth and all of my other tanks that are less than 25 mm have sat flush on this mod.
On the front of the mod, we do have a fire button with an LED light around it. The light only flashes two colors, white or red. The color red lets you know if the mod is actually on or off. The LED light that is around the fire button lets you know what the mod is doing by how many times it blinks. It will blink 5 times when the power button is held for longer than 8 seconds. If you put an atomizer on there that is lower than .1 ohm or higher than 2.5 ohms, the light will blink white 4 times. If you have a low voltage protection situation, then the light will blink 15 times and shut down automatically. Also, every time you take a puff, the light will blink red 4 times.
On the opposite side of the fire button, there is a USB charge port. The X8 Stick does have a 3000 mAh rechargeable, internal battery. It has a maximum voltage of 4.2 volts and it is capable of a 20 amp continuous discharge. I do not believe that this mod has 2 amp charging because, to be honest, it really doesn’t charge that fast. It does take quite awhile to charge the mod up from dead to full as far as the battery goes. At the same time though, the battery life is pretty good and I seem to get most of the day out of it.
Right below the fire button, there is some Stick X8 branding but it is done in almost in the same color as the mod and you really have to look to see it. Same thing goes for the Smok branding under the USB port. On the bottom side of the mod, there is a hole, just in case your battery does vent. Overall, it’s a really nice pen-type device that’s a little thicker than most of the ones on the market today. That little bit of thickness gives it a more substantial feel. It feels like a higher quality stick than most of the mods that I’ve been using lately in this subcategory.
The tank that comes with this kit is Smok’s new TFV8 X Baby tank. This is Smok’s version of a top airflow only tank. Generally, I’m not a big fan of top airflow tanks because they tend to be less flavorful than their bottom airflow counterparts. I know, people went crazy when OBS did their top airflow tank and they were saying that they were getting flavor for days but to be honest, unless the top airflow is done right, I just don’t think they’re anywhere near as flavorful as a good bottom airflow tank. The one nice thing about top airflow tanks is that they are pretty much leak proof. I guess Smok is looking to cash in on that side of the market.
If you’ve owned other Smok tanks before, then everything on the TFV8 X is very familiar. You have the obligatory Smok proprietary drip tip. There’s also Smok’s slide-out top cap that they have made famous. The only difference is, instead of having bottom airflow, your airflow comes in straight from the top, right below the sliding part of the top cap. The airflow slots measure 16 mm by 2 mm. When you slide the top cap open, you will see a very similar juice fill port that we have all seen on the Baby Beast line of tanks.
The TFV8 X tank does have a 4 ml capacity. The glass section is held in place via the tension created between the top cap and the base. On either side of the glass section, there are nice beefy o’rings that do a great job of keeping this tank leak-free.
The base of the TFV8 X tank does have some light knurling around it. The interior of the base has smooth threading and the coils do screw in rather easily. Once the coil is screwed into the base, the top part of the coil actually screws into the chimney of the tank. The chimney is short and narrow because they had to make room for the top airflow. On the bottom side of the tank, there is some Smok branding and a 510 pin. Threading around the 510 pin is very smooth. There are no surprises here. This is typical Smok build quality that you’ll find on all of their tanks and that’s a good thing.
In this kit, I did receive two coils. The coils included are the .25 ohm M2 coil and the .13 ohm X4 coil. The first coil I tried on this tank was the .25 ohm M2 coil. It’s a nice flavorful coil and I did get a more than decent vape off of it but I was a little surprised at the lack of longevity. This coil did not last long at all. I don’t know, maybe I just got a bad one but it seems like after 3 or 4 tanks, this coil was just burnt out. I was a little surprised at this because that has not been my overall experience with Smok coils. The vape that I did get off of it was on the flavorful side and the clouds were not bad at all. I just wish it would have lasted a little longer so I could be more thorough in this review.
Since the M2 coil died, I have been running but X4 coil on this mod. I definitely like this coil a lot better and the longevity has been night and day when compared to the M2 coil. I get a really nice, flavorful vape off of this coil and the clouds are definitely there. I have been running this coil for over a week with no significant loss in flavor. It is a fine coil that performs extremely well. When I buy replacement coils, this is the one I will be purchasing. I have been vaping an apple pie juice in this coil that I know very well and I have to say that the flavor is definitely on point, especially for a top airflow tank.
The Look, Feel, And General Aesthetics Of The Mod
Lately, I have been getting a lot of these one-button simple mods for review. I have to say that in general, I really do like them because of their simplicity and the quality of vape that they are capable of putting out. In this subcategory of the vaping market, things have definitely gotten a lot better. The Stick X8 is definitely one of my favorite mods in this subcategory. I think the stainless steel looks absolutely fantastic and I love the fact that the mod is so simple. As far as looks go though, I do think that Smok kind of cheaped out on the button. I really wish they would have used a higher quality button or just something that looks a little bit more substantial. The plastic one that they wound up going with does look a little cheesy. They also kind of cheaped out on the LED as well. I just think that Smok could have done a much better job on this part of the mod. I love the pocketability of the mod and the fact that it fits in a front shirt pocket or a front jeans pocket. It’s definitely something that is extremely easy to carry.
How Does It Vape
I really wish I had more time with the other coil so I could give you a better rundown on how it vapes. Unfortunately, it was just not in the cards and I really don’t have a lot to say about that coil except for the fact that I wish it lasted longer. I will say this, the X4 coil is absolutely fantastic and I do get one very high quality vape off of it. It has excellent flavor and it’s not bad in the cloud department. The mod itself actually hits pretty hard and it will give you a very satisfying, simple vape.
What Would Make It Better
- Faster Charging
- Better Fire Button
There really isn’t a lot wrong with this kit. I do bring up the slow charging because once my battery does get close to empty, it takes a pretty long time to charge up this mod, considering its size. I would have definitely liked to have seen 2 amp charging included in this kit.
The other thing that was kind of disappointing on this kit was the fire button. It works well and it’s very functional but I don’t think it looks like it belongs on the mod. It’s kind of cheap and plasticky and so are the LED lights that go around it. The fire button looks like it was an afterthought. I think Smok is capable of doing a much better job and they should have included a higher quality firing switch. I mean come on, these are the guys that developed the fire bar that a lot of us have come to know and love. When it comes to fire buttons, they should have done a much better job on the X8 Stick.
