Just to bottom line it, this is a great mod if you’re looking for something that feels heavy and has that solid build quality, that hefty feel to it, if you’re looking for that kind of mod, definitely check this one out because it’s a really nice mod that works very well.
What’s up, Insiders? Deuces Jack at Vapinginsider.com. Today, we’re going to be going over the Ehpro Cold Steel 200. Now, you guys know I gave the Cold Steel 100 a really good review. Is this one lives up to the name? Is it as good as the 100 just in dual 18650 form factor? Make sure you watch the whole review, find out exactly what I think.
Before we get into the video, make sure you check out our new merch site. You can get my tagline on a shirt or a hoodie.
What’s In The Box
Also included in the packaging, you get a user manual, you get a QC certificate, a warranty card and a rather nice USB type-C cable that’s pretty heavy, pretty thick, man, I like it, nice job on that. Let me give you one last quick look around the mod.
- 1 Cold Steel Box Mod
- 1 USB Type-C Cable
- 1 Certificate Card
- 1 Warranty Card
- 1 1 User Manual
Let’s take a look at the mod. Wow, man. Check that out. A little bit of gold and black going on there, I like that, man. I’m diggin it. Diggin that fire button, those raised buttons, really, really nice job. Got a nice paint job on this mod, man. I’ve been using this thing for weeks, no signs of wear or anything like that. You got these gold-plated star screws holding everything in place. You do have a little bit of texture here for some grip, definitely diggin that. There is your micro USB type-c port for charging and updates, nice job on that.
On the front, you got some more gold plating. I’m digging this Aegis type of fire button that’s raised, really nice job. Screen is very small but very bright. Plus/minus. Battery indicator light. This is your basically like an eject button for your battery door, we’re going to go over that in a minute. Got a little bit of branding over here, you have some more texture, some more gold-plated star screws and some more texture here. On the other side right here, some more gold accenting, really, really nice. There’s your hinge for your battery door.
Alright, Insiders! Wanted to give you a quick size comparison. This is the Cold Steel 200, this is the Lux 200, and this is the Wismec Sinuous V200. Probably closer to the Lux 200 as far as size goes. Lux is definitely a little wider but they feel similar in the hand, this one’s (Cold Steel) definitely much heavier but very, very similar in shape and form factor as far as feel in the hand goes.
Just very, very close, that’s the closest one I could think of to compare it to. And I wanted to give you a different perspective because this Wismec Sinuous 200 is basically all plastic, much, much lighter. Same type of footprint though but just a lot, lot lighter. So there you go, just so you have a point of reference.
From Top To Bottom
On the top plate here, you have a gold-plated top plate, gold-plated stainless steel threading, gold-plated 510 that I would say has a medium spring with a medium throw to it. I kind of like these beveled edges here, how they did that, really, really nice job on that. 25mm atomizers fit no problem. Really no overhang on the mod, a little bit of overhang on that beveling but technically really not. So 25mm atomizers will look good on this mod.
On the bottom side, here’s something I really like, you got these little rubber feet right here and they really give it some stability when you put it down on a table, it doesn’t move, I like that, nice touch, Ehpro. You also have some battery venting over here and some Ehpro branding over here.
Now, here’s the thing, remember I told you this was like an eject button for the battery door? So you hit that, see that? Check that out. See that, man? Spring-loaded battery door. Check out the way this thing pops open. Bang! I like that, man. Nice job on that. Battery door, I wish they would have made the battery indicator markings here in white. They’re kind of clear but they still should be in white. Everything’s gold-plated. These are button style contacts over here.
Down the tubes, I don’t know if you can see them but they’re spring-loaded and gold-plated battery contacts. Now, let’s load some batteries in this thing. We’re going to put our Golisi batteries in. Positive side facing the door there, negative side facing the door there. Now, watch. Do you see that? See that little bit of snugness? Watch this. I kind of got to push it in, it’s a little tight. So now, when I go to take it out, the one comes out but the other one, I kind of got to shake to get it out. It’s a real issue, man. It’s a pain in the ass. I don’t know if that’s just on this mod because they do have other colored ones, I don’t know if I just got one that’s a little tight or if it’s a problem across the whole line but I need to let you know about it. Once in a while depending on how thick your battery wraps are, some of your batteries are going to get stuck in there. So I just want to point that out.
Once the batteries are in securely, you take the battery door and you just pop it down like that. And this thing isn’t moving, it doesn’t pop out, nothing, man, This thing is solid, I like it a lot.
Five clicks to turn the mod on, you see that nice bright screen right there.
Now this is another thing I really don’t like about this mod, no matter what, it defaults to 35W. I absolutely hate that, man. When you change atomizers and stuff, it defaults. I don’t like that at all.
The buttons are nice and clicky. It does scroll in half watt increments. It Scrolls all the way up to 200W and it does round-robin. It Scrolls in 0.1W increments up to 30W, then it goes to 0.5W increments, I do like that.
In order to enter the main menu system, 3 clicks, you can see I’m in power mode, now I’m in temp mode, curve mode, bypass mode, voltage mode, back, and back to power mode. Let’s put it in temp. You can see, I can choose between nickel, stainless steel, titanium, TCR and back. Let’s put it in stainless steel. Now, in stainless steel, I can scroll in 1W increments all the way up to the full 200W and it does round-robin. I do like that, nice job on that. Now, you can see, I can scroll in 5° increments in temperature control mode all the way up to 600° and it does round-robin to Celsius. So I just wanted to show you that. Like I said, it’s got the curve mode, bypass, and now back to power.
When you go into power, you can pick between normal, soft, and strong or back, I normally keep it in normal, and now, you can scroll up or down with your wattages. If I hit the minus button and the fire button together, it flips the screen. Hit it again, it flips it back. Hit the plus and fire button together, it key locks the mod. When the mod is key locked, you can still fire it but you cannot adjust the wattage.
In order to unlock the mod, plus and fire button together and that’s it, you’re unlocked. Hit the plus and minus button together and you can lock down the whole mod, this means it will not fire and you cannot change the wattage. Hit it again to unlock it. And that’s it, man. That’s the whole menu system.
Let’s get into the pros.
First pro is going to be just like the first con, some people like a heavy mod. If you like that heavy, hefty, quality type of feel on a mod, you’re going to like this one, definitely check it out.
That brings us to our next pro, it’s got a really good build quality. The build quality on this is nice. I love the different textures, how it goes from smooth to a little bit of roughness, nice job on that, Ehpro.
The buttons on this one, they’re nice and clicky and responsive, it’s a pro.
Love the battery door. That battery door is as solid as it gets, pro.
I like the display. Yes, it’s a little bit on the small side, it’s a little bit old hat but you want to know something? It’s bright and it’s vibrant and you can see it in all lighting conditions, that’s a pro for sure.
It’s got a real easy menu system.
It fires fast.
It’s got Type-C charging and it charges quickly.
And the last pro is going to be, I love those rubber feet they put on the bottom of the mod. When you put the mod down on a table, it stays there, it doesn’t move, I like that, it’s a pro.
I got the Hellvape Rebirth on there right now, ohming out at 0.15 at 98W and this thing hits nice and fires fast. Check it out. Just a real, nice solid vape off of this.
So that’s it for the pros and cons, Insiders!
So that’s it, Insiders! Let’s get into them cons and pros.
First con is going to be and it’s a subjective con because some people don’t like them, but this is a heavy mod. Some people like heavy mods, some people don’t but for those who don’t, this one’s on the hefty side, that’s for sure.
Price point on this one, 80 bucks, man. Come on, it’s a little, little high even for the build quality. It’s got nice build quality but $80 build quality, I don’t know about that, that’s a personal thing. For me, I think it’s a little bit on the high side, I think 60-65 bucks is more in line for what this thing is worth.
Another con is going to have to be, you saw it down low, no matter what batteries I use, one side gets jammed in there, gets stuck a little bit. They should have done their tolerances a little better in the battery compartment, it’s a con.
And one of the most annoying cons on this mod is it constantly defaults to 35W. If I open the battery door and I swap batteries out and my old tank is still on there, it doesn’t remember anything, it just defaults to 35W, it’s annoying as hell. I can’t tell you how many times I picked this mod up after I swapped the battery out, I take a vape on it and I’m like, “Man, what is that? This thing’s barely firing.” Because I very, very rarely vape at 35W. Most of the time, I’m in the 80-95W range and it’s just annoying as hell, I have to point it out.
But that’s it on the cons, nothing that really affects the vape quality.
