Asmodus Tribeaut Mod Review

Updated on: 2019-10-04

I got to admit. This is one of my favorite 18650 mods. I love the way this thing feels in the hand. From the form factor alone, it’s one of my favorites. I run all my single coil tanks on this thing and it’s just beautiful. You can see, right now, I got my Aromamizer line on it. It’s basically been living on this thing. I think if Asmodus made this in 21700 form factor, brighten up that screen, and fix the battery issue, they’d have a major, major home run on their hands. That’s just my opinion.

What’s up, Insiders? Deuces Jack, I’m at Today, we got a new Asmodus mod for you. We’re talking about the Tribeaut by Asmodus. This one is a single 18650 mod. I’m going to tell you right off the jump, I love the form factor on this one. This is one comfortable mod.

Before we get into the video, make sure you check out our new merch site. You can get my tagline on a shirt, or a hoodie.

What’s In The Box

Also included in the box, you have a battery safety card, a Tribeaut user manual, a warranty card, and you get this nice micro USB cable for charging. I am not sure if this mod is firmware upgradeable. I have not been able to find out. If I do find out, I will update it in the description.

Quick Tour

Check that out. Kind of neat, right? Let me show it to you. Kind of like a 3d triangle with rounded edges. Nice job on that, man. This part right here, definite fingerprint magnet. This part right here has that ruberry type of feel. Just a real nice form factor in the hand. On top, you get to appreciate the triangular form and the way they rounded off the points. Kind of nice, the way they did that. Stainless steel plate on top, here, stainless steel threading and a gold-plated 510 that I would say has medium spring to it with probably a medium throw. It’s almost a short throw, not quite, though. A little longer than what I would call a short throw to it.

On the face part of it, you can see, it’s got that nice Asmodus button. It’s flushed with the rest of the mod. Has that Asmodus emblem on it, nice job on that. Plus, minus button, micro USB port. The other panels, like I said, this part can definitely be a fingerprint magnet. It does tend to be pretty schmutzy. I did see this mod. They have two other colors. They have it in brown and blue. And the blue is just drop dead gorgeous in the pictures. I haven’t been able to see one up close yet. On the bottom here, same type of rubberized coating as the rest of the mod. You have some battery venting here. They did a nice job on this battery door. You just slide it out and pop it up just like that. It’s nice and sturdy. Looks like you had a silver plated button style contact over here. That negative marking should be done in white. That’s a bad job. I gotta point that out. It’s definitely a con. Down the tube, you probably can’t see it but there is a red plus sign. There is also a battery contact on the bottom as well.

In order to install your battery, you want to put your battery in negative side facing the door. Push the battery door down. Give it a push and slide it over. It’s solid, it don’t move. I pop this thing down on a desk and everything. It stays shut. It’s a nice, solid battery door.

Size Comparison

I want to give you a point of reference as far as the size comparison goes. This is the Tesla Wii 86W I just dig. This is definitely one of the smaller single 18650. You can see, in the hand, this is much smaller. Totally different form factor but this is much more comfortable. The Tribeaut is very comfortable in the hand, it really is. But definitely pretty bulbous for a single 18650 mod. If you compare it next to the Pico, you can see, again, not really anything that I could compare this to shapewise. There aren’t a lot of shapes like the Tribeaut but definitely, in the hand, this definitely feels big. That’s my main point in contention with this mod. It feels so big in the hand. I don’t know why. They just didn’t go the extra step and make this thing a 21700 mod. It would have been a home run had they done that.

Screen and Menu System

5 clicks, gets you to Asmodus flash screen, and there you can see, you got your power mode, your battery meter, your wattage, your voltage, your puff counter in seconds, your resistance, and your number of puffs. This screen, it might look bright but it’s not in person. I think it’s the screen cover, not the screen itself. I wish they would have went with something a little bit more translucent. You can really see it dimmed down when the screen dims after a couple of seconds. I just wish it was brighter. I do like the button. Nice clicky button, nice clicky plus and minus buttons. It does scroll in 1W increments which is going to be a con. It goes all the way up to 80W. It does not round robin.

Asmodus Tribeaut Mod menu system

Here we go. Let’s do the menu system. 5 clicks, that’s my power off screen. If I hit the plus or minus button, the mod will shut off. There’s my mode button. If I hit the plus or minus button, I can go through power, temp, curve, TCR and TFR mode, and back. If I hit the power button again, this is my screen brightness. I can turn it up or down. There is my screen. I can put it in normal mode or I can inverse here. See what it looks like inverse. See that? Let’s change it back to normal. There’s my puff counter, I can wipe it clean there. And there is my exit. I can back into normal mode like that. If I hit the plus and power button, it locks the mod. When I lock the mod, that means I can’t fire it or I can’t push the buttons up or down. In order to unlock it, plus ad power button together, it’s unlocked. I hit the minus and power button together, it will reread my resistance. That’s it folks, that’s the whole menu system.

Let’s move on to the pros.

First pro is going to be, as soon as you pull this thing out of the box and you put it in your and, it’s just like, “oooh..” it just feels good. I love that form factor.

Simple, well laid out screen. Like I said, it’s on the dim side but I like the way they did then screen. It’s very simple. It’s got all the pertinent information you, as a vaper, need to know.

Super easy menu system on this one and it’s very intuitive.

30mm atomizers fit on this bad boy without any overhang. I love that rubberized finish. I just like it. It feels smooth, it feels silky, it contributes to the overall comfort of this mod in your hand.

Let me put it by the mic so you can hear it. Listen, you hear that? Nice, clicky, tactile fire button. Awesome job, Asmodus.

That battery door, it’s pretty solid.

And the last pro is going to be, this thing just feels like it’s made from quality materials. Asmodus has a reputation for their build quality, it’s no different on the Tribeaut. This thing is built well. It’s a definite pro.

That’s it, Insiders. Those are my cons and pros.

Alright, Insiders! Let’s go over those cons and pros for the Asmodus Tribeaut.

First con is going to be, and it’s kind of annoying. My battery meter is just not accurate. It isn’t. It reads full almost all the time and then all of a sudden I get a severe drop off. It’s not the battery. I tried a couple of different cells in it, some brand new cells, the battery meter is just off.

Now, another problem with this mod is once the battery does get below 40%, right below half way, it hits really, really weak. It’s an issue, it really is. I find myself swapping out battery a lot sooner on this mod because I can’t take the weak inconsistent hit when that battery gets below 50%. So I gotta point that out as well. Hopefully this is upgradeable and they can fix that because it is an issue.

Another con is going to be, those glossy panels, they kind of a fingerprint magnet. Some people aren’t going to like that, some people don’t care.

The screen on this one. They did a nice job on the lay out but it’s dim. I don’t think it’s the screen. I think it’s the screen cover. It’s way too dark.

It’s got black on black battery indicator markings. And the last con I’m going to get into a little bit, I’m going to talk about a little bit because it’s something that kind of annoys me. This is a big single 18650 mod. So big that they probably, with a little bit of effort, could have bang this thing out to 21700 pretty easily. Yeah, I know, a lot of people are going to say, “Jack, I don’t like 21700s. I don’t want to buy another battery.” You know what, that’s good. For people like you, there’s a thing called 18650 battery adapters. My point is, in this day and age, I really don’t want to see any more single 18650 mods. I got no use for them. Make these single cell mods in 21700 form factor, let the people who want to insist on using 18650s use the adapters. But make them in 21700 form factor because they’re not going to be that much bigger than an 18650 mod. And that’s my take on it. I know I got a little wordy on this con but it’s just something that’s been bothering me with this single 18650 mods I’ve been seeing coming out lately.

But that’s it on the cons. Nothing really too terrible.
